With its scenic coastal course, and the region’s strong sporting legacy, Challenge Xiamen provides athletes with a world-class race experience to round out the year over middle, Olympic and sprint distance racing, plus a duathlon and an Ultra option

Five Reasons to Race Challenge Xiamen:

  1. The course is located on Xiamen Huandong romantic coast. Competitors will race along the beautiful coastline, enjoying the stunning sea views, sunrises and sunsets. The cycling and running course is on the world’s first “right-of-way” high-level marathon course, without traffic, which is fast and flat
  2. Xiamen has a well-developed transport network, which makes it easy for both domestic and international participants to reach. Xiamen has 161 domestic and international passenger routes, serving 119 cities and regions both at home and abroad. The race venue is 15km away from Xiamen Airport and only 20 minutes by car. It is 10km from Xiamen North Railway Station by high-speed rail/bullet train and 20 minutes by car.
  3. Known as the “World Garden City”, Xiamen boasts a beautiful natural environment and profound cultural heritage. As the birthplace of southern Fujian culture, Xiamen has influenced Taiwan, Southeast Asia, etc. It is diverse, inclusive, open and international. Famous tourist attractions such as Gulangyu Island, South Putuo, Xiamen University, etc. Athletes can visit Xiamen’s city style of “the city is on the sea and the sea is in the city”.
  4. Xiamen City has 20 five-star hotels, a number of urban complex supporting facilities around the stadium, rail transit and bus rapid transit to all parts of the city. Whether it is accommodation, shopping, dining, transportation, there’s something for everyone!
  5. Xiamen has held triathlon events for many years, attracting a large number of triathlon enthusiasts every year. In 2021, the Xiamen Office of the China Triathlon Association and the Xiamen Training Base were established. With excellent natural conditions and event organization, Xiamen has gradually become one of the three famous cities in China and an ideal venue for triathlon athletes. 

About the Race

 Xiamen is located in the southeast of Fujian Province. It is an important central city in the southeast coast of China, one of the first four special economic zones opened to the outside world, and is also a planned city and sub-provincial city. Xiamen, bordering Quanzhou and Zhangzhou, and facing Kinmen County across the sea, is a bay-type city composed of Xiamen Island, Gulangyu Island and other coastal areas such as Haicang, Jimei, Tongan and Xiang ‘an.

Xiamen is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese and an important transportation hub in Asia: Xiamen Port is the 7th largest container port in China and the 13th largest container port in the world, and Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport is the 6th largest entry-exit airport in China.

In addition, Xiamen is a famous scenic tourist city, with the reputation of “the city is on the sea, the sea is in the city”. The famous scenic spots include Gulangyu Island, Wanshi Mountain, Jimei Village, South Putuo Temple, Xiamen University.

About the Course

The venue of Challenge Xiamen, Xiamen Huandong Romantic Coastal Line, located in the largest inner bay of Xiamen – Tongan Bay, with excellent water quality, good ecological environment, golden beaches and dedicated cycling and running track.

The two-lap 1.9km ocean swim course starts from the beach of Meifeng Sports Park

The 90km bike course is over three laps along the stunning coastal track. The run is four laps along the purpose built coastal running path.
