No brand is as obsessed with triathlon bikes as Quintana Roo, and for good reason. We invented them! We designed and built the world’s first dedicated triathlon bike in 1989 to give athletes an extra edge, and ever since, we have stayed at the front of the sport. Today, we offer more high-performance triathlon bike models than any other brand. That means whatever your race distance, experience level, performance goals, or budget is, there’s a QR tri bike built specifically for you.
Choosing the right bike is all about finding the machine that matches your ambitions. Here’s a breakdown of every model in the QR triathlon lineup, what makes each one unique, and how to choose the right one for you.
V-PRi
The V-PRi is Quintana Roo’s flagship triathlon bike and the fastest, lightest, best-handling triathlon superbike we’ve ever built. Named Triathlete’s 2024 Tri Bike of the Year and developed alongside our top pro athletes, the V-PRi refines everything that made the original V-PR a race-winner and pushes it further, saving an additional 6.2 watts at 24 mph through a reshaped fork, Shift+ downtube, and LEA2 chainstay. Its signature feature is FuelBay™, a fully frame-integrated hydration and nutrition system that hides bottles and gels inside the frame itself for a cleaner, faster shape on course.
- Ideal use: Full and half-distance racing at the highest level
- Cost: Starts at $9,499
- Unique features: FuelBay™ integrated hydration and nutrition storage, Intelligent Integration Cockpit (IIC), included power meter on every build, 6.2-watt aero advantage over the V-PR
Choose this bike if: You want to ride what the pros ride and get every performance advantage on race day.
V-PR
The V-PR is Quintana Roo’s most successful and most popular race bike, built from the ground up in the wind tunnel to be lighter and faster than anything that came before it. Independent testing puts the V-PR 12.7% more efficient than its top competitor, and it’s only beaten by the newer V-PRi. At just 2,169 grams (frame, fork, seatpost, QBox, and TT storage), it’s also one of the lightest dedicated triathlon frames in the industry. The Shift+ downtube and LEA2 chainstay work together to reduce drag, while the removable QBox and BTA hydration options give you flexible ways to carry fuel and spares without sacrificing speed.
- Ideal use: All triathlon distances, from Sprint to full distance
- Cost: Starts at $7,585
- Unique features: Wind tunnel refined aerodynamics, lightest tri frame among industry leaders, removable QBox integrated storage, highly adjustable BTA hydration and cockpit options
Choose this bike if: You want the same race-winning aerodynamics and engineering as our flagship superbike, in a simpler platform built to handle any distance you throw at it.
X-PR
The X-PR shares its frame design with the championship-winning V-PR. This means it delivers the same wind-tunnel-tested aerodynamic profiles, but at a significantly more accessible price thanks to a more budget-friendly carbon layup that still hits class-leading weight and stiffness targets. The trade-off is only a couple of hundred grams over the V-PR. It’s not a starter bike; it’s a true competitor to our top-tier models, with the same aero advantages and built to bring elite performance within reach.
- Ideal use: Athletes ready to race at a competitive level without a superbike price tag
- Cost: Starts at $4,444
- Unique features: Same aero mold and frame design as the V-PR, QR.SF short fork, Shift+ downtube, removable QBox storage
Choose this bike if: You want elite-level aerodynamics and race-day speed at the best performance-per-dollar value in triathlon.
Service Course Tri
The Service Course Tri is QR’s solution for athletes who refuse to be boxed into one type of race. Built on the fastest UCI-legal road frame QR has ever created, it’s a true one-bike solution: ride it in draft-legal Sprint and Olympic distance events, road races, or collegiate and World Triathlon competition. The geometry and components are designed to provide a highly adjustable fit with compatible clip-on aero extensions, which transforms it into a competitive setup for 70.3s and beyond. Race-ready aerodynamics and ultra-lightweight builds give it the acceleration and cornering agility to attack technical courses with confidence.
- Ideal use: Draft-legal Sprint and Olympic racing, technical or climbing courses, and multi-format athletes who also road race
- Cost: Starts at $3,615
- Unique features: UCI-legal aero frame, optional clip-on aero extensions, race-oriented geometry, tire clearance up to 36mm, ultra-light 16.1 lb builds available
Choose this bike if: You need one bike that can handle group rides on Saturday and race a middle- or full-distance event on Sunday.
Service Route Tri
The Service Route Tri is Quintana Roo’s most comfortable triathlon bike, designed for athletes who want a platform that performs on race day and feels just as good on every training ride in between. Endurance geometry puts you in a sustainable, efficient position that reduces strain on your back and key running muscles, while a carbon layup tuned for vertical compliance smooths out rough roads so you arrive at T2 fresher. Like the Service Course Tri, it accepts optional clip-on extensions, giving you the flexibility to race draft-legal events, go road racing, or go long.
- Ideal use: Sprint through long-course triathlon, especially for athletes who prioritize comfort and all-day versatility
- Cost: Starts at $3,615
- Unique features: Endurance geometry, compliance-tuned carbon layup, tire clearance up to 34mm, optional clip-on extensions
Choose this bike if: You want a fast, comfortable bike that grows with you from your first triathlon to your first full-distance event and beyond.
What Is Studio NEXT?
Studio NEXT is Quintana Roo’s top-tier build program, reserved for the lightest and most advanced carbon frames we’ve ever produced. It offers the top-end components and the best paint options with beautiful color-matched cockpits. These are the exact options we offer our top pro athletes, and now they’re available for anyone.
Studio NEXT-level builds are currently available on the V-PRi and Service Course Tri. On the V-PRi, Studio NEXT builds add the CeramicSpeed OSPW, bottom bracket, and hub bearing upgrades along with premium aerobar options. This is ideal for athletes who are racing to win and want every marginal gain available. On the Service Course Tri, Studio NEXT frames feature a lay-up that shaves meaningful weight (up to 150 grams) off the standard frame while optimizing stiffness and ride quality.
Dedicated vs. Drop-Bar Triathlon Bikes
Not every triathlete needs the same tool, which is why QR builds two distinct categories of triathlon bikes.
Dedicated triathlon bikes like the V-PRi, V-PR, and X-PR are purpose-built for one thing: going as fast as possible on a triathlon bike leg. They use time trial-style geometry with a steep seat tube angle that rotates your hips forward, opening up your hip angle for a more aero position. As a side benefit, this also helps save your legs for stronger run off the bike. Paired with integrated aerobar extensions and hydration systems designed around longer, lower, and more aggressive aero positions. If your race is a middle- to full-distance event with a course featuring long and fast straights, this type of bike helps save precious seconds and gives you every performance advantage.
Drop-bar triathlon bikes like the Service Course Tri and Service Route Tri use a standard road-style drop-handlebar instead of a cockpit with a basebar and integrated aerobars. This keeps them legal for draft-legal Sprint and Olympic events, increases comfort, improves handling, and gives them everyday versatility as a road bike, too. They allow you to add compatible clip-on extensions when you want a faster position for a middle- or full-distance race, then remove them for draft-legal competition, road rides, or general training. If you race multiple formats, want a bike that can double as your everyday road bike, or you’re not ready to commit to the dedicated aero position of a full tri bike, a drop-bar triathlon bike gives you the flexibility to do it all on one frame.
With five models spanning every race distance, budget, and riding style, there’s always a Quintana Roo built for exactly how you race. Explore the full lineup to find yours.
