Two weeks ago, the documentary Resilience premiered at Challenge Almere-Amsterdam , sharing the extraordinary journey of Dutch professional triathlete Els Visser. Crowned European Long Distance Champion in 2023 (also at Challenge Almere-Amsterdam), Visser has become one of the sport’s leading athletes – but her path to the top began in the most unexpected and life-threatening of ways.
In 2014, while traveling in Indonesia, Visser survived a shipwreck. Stranded in open water, she swam for eight hours in the ocean before reaching land. That fight for survival became a defining moment, forging the resilience and mental strength that continue to drive her career as an elite triathlete.
Resilience takes viewers inside Visser’s unique story – revisiting her shipwreck survival while also showcasing her dedication, training, and racing at the highest level of the sport. It’s an inspiring film that captures the true spirit of perseverance and determination.
