ABUS AirBreaker 2.0: Ventilation, Aerodynamics and Comfort for the Long Race

In triathlon, your helmet has to do more than just meet safety standards. It needs to keep you cool in the midday sun, cut through the wind on long straights, and feel comfortable enough to wear for hours – whether you’re attacking a bike leg in an Olympic Distance race or grinding through the middle stages of a Long Distance race. The new ABUS AirBreaker 2.0, developed in partnership with the Movistar Team, was built with exactly that balance in mind.

This second-generation model follows the original AirBreaker, a helmet that’s seen professional victories at the highest level, including a road world championship title. But the new version isn’t just a small upgrade – it’s been rethought from the ground up to match modern racing demands. ABUS worked closely with pro riders – both men and women – testing in hot climbs, flat sprints, and long, steady efforts to refine the design.

Cooling When It Counts
One of the standout features is its ventilation system. Seven deep air channels, redesigned eyebrow vents, and longer top openings keep air moving even at lower speeds – essential when you’re climbing or riding in heat. The central top vent is shaped to work well with modern large-lens cycling glasses, helping air circulate around and behind them. The result is better airflow in the moments when overheating could cost you precious minutes.

Aerodynamics Without Compromise
The AirBreaker 2.0 introduces the “AeroBlade,” a carbon-reinforced structure that stabilises the helmet and channels air efficiently whether you’re riding hard into a headwind or sitting in a fast aero position. It’s designed to reduce turbulence and drag while still allowing maximum ventilation – something most athletes will appreciate when balancing speed and comfort over a long bike leg.

Fit, Safety, and Tri-Specific Details
ABUS’s ActiCage reinforcement allows for large vents without sacrificing impact protection, while the lowered rear edge offers extra coverage for the back of the head. The Zoom Spin adjustment system adapts to different head shapes, and the design comfortably accommodates ponytails or braids. For triathletes, the MIPS version includes a Fidlock magnetic buckle – ideal for fast, one-handed helmet changes in transition zones.

Light on the Head, Heavy on Performance
At just 205–220g depending on size, the AirBreaker 2.0 is light enough to disappear on your head, reducing fatigue over long distances. Made in Italy, it’s available in multiple colours and sizes, and in both standard and MIPS versions.

For triathletes, the demands on equipment are high: you need something that’s aerodynamic on the flats, cool in the climbs, stable in crosswinds, and comfortable from start to finish. The ABUS AirBreaker 2.0 has been built with that exact balance in mind – so you can focus on your race, not your helmet.
