Five Reasons to Race Challenge Beijing:

  1. Beijing, the Capital of China: With over 21 million residents, Beijing is the world’s most populous national capital city as a global city and one of the world’s leading centers in various fields. In the meanwhile, combining both modern and traditional style architectures, Beijing is one of the oldest cities in the world, with a rich history dating back over three millennia.
  2. Yanqing as a popular tourist destination: With the cool climate in summer, Yanqing being known as Beijing’s “summer capital”. Yanqing also has various famous attractions including Badaling Great Wall, Longqing Gorge, Beijing Wild Duck Lake Wetland. 
  3. Olympic legacy: Yanqing District hosted alpine skiing, bobsled, luge and skeleton during the 2022 Winter Olympics. The proposed Event Village and Finish Area of Challenge Beijing will be located in front of the International Pavilion of Beijing Expo Park, also known as “Xuejinggong”(Snow Crystal Palace). It was served as award plaza of 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympic Games.

About the Race

Beijing is the capital of the People’s Republic of China. With over 21 million residents, Beijing is the world’s most populous national capital city.

Beijing is a global city and one of the world’s leading centers for culture, diplomacy, politics, finance, business and economics, education, research, language, tourism, media, sport, science and technology and transportation.

Combining both modern and traditional style architectures, Beijing is also one of the oldest cities in the world, with a rich history dating back over three millennia. As the last of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China, Beijing has been the political center of the country for most of the past eight centuries.

Yanqing District is a district of the municipality of Beijing, locates northwest of the city proper of Beijing. The district hosted the Expo 2019, and hosted alpine skiing, bobsled, luge and skeleton during the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Beijing Expo Park is located in the southwest of Yanqing District, Beijing, about 74 kilometers away from the urban area, with an area of 5,030,000 square meters. With the Gui River running through it and the Haituo Mountain Range at its back, with its lakes and mountains in full view.

This is where the International Horticultural Exposition 2019 Beijing China was held. In April 2020, the first anniversary of the opening of Expo 2019 Beijing, it was officially renamed “Beijing Expo Park”.

About the Course

The main venue is in the Beijing Expo Park, which is located in the southwest of Yanqing District, Beijing, about 74 kilometers away from the urban area, with an area of 5,030,000 square meters.

The Swim Course is in the Gui River. The river runs through the Beijing Expo Park with the Haituo Mountains behind it, with the river and mountains complementing each other, creating picturesque landscape.

The Transition 1 (Swim-Bike) locates at the bottom tunnel of Guirui Theatre. The shape of the theater is like a colorful butterfly spreading its wings and ready to fly.

The Bike Course is in the Expo Park and surrounding roads, combining city roads and country roads. The course passes the bridge on the Gui River, the World Grapes Expo Garden, and athletes can see the Haituo Mountains along the course.

The Transition 2 (Bike-Run) locates at the Event Village, in front of the International Pavilion (also known as “Xuejinggong”, Snow Crystal Palace) of the Beijing Expo Park. It also served as award plaza of 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympic Games.

The Run Course is in the Expo Park on the “rainbow runway”, passes the iconic buildings and sceneries in the Expo Park. Athletes can fell the artistic conception of landscaping that unites man and nature.

Then, the athletes will finish the race by passing the finish line which is also at the Event Village. And join the grand post-race party!
