As the defending champion, all eyes were on Sara Perez Sala during last weekend’s The Championship. In the end the Spanish atlete wasn’t able to win the race as she finished behind India Lee and Caroline Pohle. Still Perez Sala’s third place was a wonderful showcase of triathlon at the highest level. “I do think this is my lucky race. Here I finished for the first time on a podium in a Middle Distance race, so for me this race is very important and emotional”, she looks back on racing The Championship three times and finishing on the podium three times as well (including her last year’s victory, ed.). Only in the final meters Perez Sala saw Germany’s Caroline Pohle passing her in the battle for second. “The race was 400 meters too long. It was a big battle and a real challenge.”
