Challenge Florianópolis celebrates 10th Anniversary with Sell-Out Field

This Sunday, 16 November, Challenge Florianópolis, one of Brazil’s largest races, will celebrate 10 years and also decide the Brazilian National Champions. A small pro field and over 1,000 age group athletes will battle it out within one of the most beautiful settings Brazil has to offer.

In the professional men’s race, there appear to be two leading favorites. First up is Igor Amorelli. The Brazilian pro athlete is experiencing a home race and obviously wants to take victory in his own country. Amorelli is therefore perfectly prepared to get the maximum out of himself and can count on the support of the home crowd. At the same time, Amorelli can probably expect the most competition from Gaetan Fetaud. The Frenchman enjoys racing far from home, he recently competed in Challenge Samarkand for example, and now hopes to claim the gold in Florianópolis.

In the women’s race, there are likely to be slightly less obvious favorites, but people will mainly be looking at Luma Guillen, Bruna Stolf, Pietra Meneghini, Bruna Mahn and Fernanda Penkal de Souza. It is expected that the level of these women is fairly similar, and so a race that remains exciting until the last metres is likely. From start to finish, all the women will do everything they can to make things as difficult as possible for each other as they fight not only for the win, but also the national championship title.

Florianópolis is the capital of the Brazilian State of Santa Catarina. It is located in the southern region of Brazil, South-America. The city, known as the Ilha da Magia (Magic Island) owns a charming natural beauty. It has around 100 beaches spread along its coastline and is the second most visited destination by foreign tourists in Brazil.

The 1.9km swim takes place at sunrise from the popular Jurerê Internacional beach, in calm waters with a pleasant temperature. The challenging cycling route starts on the coast, entering the interior of the island, passing through some traditional tourist spots. Back on the beach, the run heads through the lively streets of Jurerê Internacional, with plenty of heat – human and natural – and vibrant finish line.

The start gun of the 10th edition of Challenge Florianópolis will go off at 5:50am local time with live timing available at www.challenge-family.live and updates on social media. For further information, visit https://www.challenge-brazil.com/florianopolis/.
