Alex Yee runs formidable marathon in London

To be honest we barely can’t wait until the day Alex Yee is toeing the line at one of our Long Distance races: the reigning Olympic Triathlon Champion yesterday took part in the London Marathon – his first 42.2 kilometer ever – and he crushed it with a stunning time of 2:11:08, putting him in a fourteenth place overall.

Yee had no longer distance experience whatsoever, so the 42.2 kilometers was totally new for him. For a long time the Briton was on track to go sub 2:10 – halfway through he passed in 1:04:19 – but after 25 kilometers the pace dropped a bit and after 30 kilometers it became really tough for Yee. Still, Yee persevered and eventually finished in 2:11:08, placing fourteenth overall. The race was won by Kenyan Sebastian Sawe (2:02:27).
