Wins for Priester and Sandrini at Challenge Forte Village Sardinia

Challenge Forte Village Sardinia today cemented its position as the perfect end to the season as age group and professional athletes took on the Mediterranean’s most beautiful course.

In the men’s race, Lasse Nygaard Priester (GER) took the win in 3:37:43 while in the women’s race, Sara Sandrini (ITA) took her first professional win in 4:16:47.

“It’s an amazing venue, the swim was so beautiful conditions and lots of fun,” said Priester at the finish line. “I managed to keep it control and exit with the front group and jumped on the bike in second. After the mountain, I realized it was just me and Lasse – he led for the first 60km and then I did some work in the last 30km but it was good to have a gap to the others. The run was hot, but I tried to stay cool and enjoy the race, it was a really a good experience.”

Sharing the podium with Priester was Lasse Lührs (GER) who took second in 3:40:20 with Hannes Buttrick (GBR) coming in third in 3:40:46.

In the women’s race, New Zealander, Nicole van der Kaay led for much of the race before Sandrini overtook her in the final kilometres of the run. Van der Kaay took second in 4:19:12 while Nikita Paskiewiez (FRA) rounded out the podium in third in 4:23:51.

“This is my last race of the season and my first podium as a pro and my first win!” said Sandrini. “I’m really happy! It was a difficult race – the bike course was difficult but so beautiful. The run was also hard – I was second until the second lap and managed to take the lead in the last 5km.”

Challenge Forte Village Sardinia took place in the award-winning Forte Village Resort on Sardinia’s southern coast. The area is renowned for its outstanding natural beauty and the bike course takes in a stretch of coastline that is globally renowned as one of the world’s most scenic roads.
