CHALLENGETAIWAN, Asia’s largest triathlon event, has been held for 7 consecutive years in Taiwan’s popular triathlon spot, Taitung. More than 5.000 athletes from 30 countries will be participating next year.
With its rich culture, natural beauty and resources, Taiwan has many names, including Formosa, the beautiful island, and Treasure Island. The people of Taiwan are known to be very hospitable to foreigners. Whether travelling alone or with a group, it is convenient to move about the island, since public transportation is accessible.
CHALLENGETAIWAN takes place in Taitung “the hometown of the sun”. The pure ocean, rolling mountains, warm and hospitable residents, the clear Flowing Lake, a beautiful, breathtaking coastline and the lively and enthusiastic Tie Hua village all await the athletes, their families and friends and spectators. Every corner of Taitung is full of stories and surprises. Its beauty is to be enjoyed. The swim course will start in the Flowing Lake, a man-made reservoir with easy views for spectators to watch from the shore. The bike course takes athletes north between the soaring Carp Mountains and spectacular Pacific coastline. Ultimately, the running course combines the lively Taitung city center with quiet and pleasant rice fields with its finish line in the Tie Hua village.
Each year, CHALLENGETAIWAN invites a number of professional athletes to participate. Jan Frodeno, Long Distance World Record holder with a time of 7:35:39, participated in 2017 and 2018. It was his first triathlon event in Asia and CHALLENGETAIWAN was his only choice. “CHALLENGETAIWAN is full of warmth and joy and Taiwan my second home in Asia. The people here are very hospitable and I would hope to participate very year” said Jan Frodeno.
CHALLENGETAIWAN also had three athlete couples participating in 2018 at the CHALLENGEASIA PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIP: Tim O’Donnell & Mirinda Carfrae, Luke McKenzie & Beth McKenzie, Brad Kahlefeldt & Radka Vodickova. We are very excited that Tim and Mirinda and their daughter will be joining us again.
